[Update] Cops find no bomb on CSUN campus
Police found no suspicious device inside a vehicle at CSUN. Police had been looking into an alleged threat made today against a student who claimed a bomb was placed in his car on campus as retaliation in a gang-related feud, campus officials said today.
Officer April Harding said the alleged bomb was reported at 11:30 a.m. and the bomb squad was sent to the scene to investigate.
"We didn't see a device," she said. "But we are still going through procedures as if it was a real explosive device."
Officials at California State University, Northridge, had declared a campus emergency as of noon today. Evacuations were ordered for the pre-school and a lab school near the B5 parking structure and B6 lot off Plummer Street.
“Police and emergency response personnel are responding to the scene of a bomb threat on campus as of noon today, February 5, 2010," an e-mail said that was sent to faculty, students and staff. "Stay clear of the area north of the B5 parking structure to include the B6 structure and the PPM (Physical Plant Management) area.”
Dr. Vance Peterson, vice president for university advancement, said the report came from a student whose vehicle was parked on a lot on campus. That student believed the bomb was placed in his vehicle as retaliation in a gang-related incident, Peterson said.
Harding said although there did not appear to be an explosive device, the LAPD is still investigating.
