A water main broke in the Eagle Rock area of Los Angeles and flooding caused minor damage to a home, a fire captain said today.
The broken main was reported around 11:30 p.m. Sunday in the 3900 block of North Verdugo Road, said Los Angeles City Fire Capt. Myron Moss.
Water flowing from the break caused minor damage to a home on Delevan Drive, Moss said.
A Department of Water and Power crew shut off the water flowing from the break, and firefighters placed sandbags to stem flooding at the home, which was not evacuated, Moss said.
As of 5:30 a.m., there were about 40 homes and businesses without water and two lanes of the four-lane road closed, said Water and Power spokeswoman Jane Galbraith.
Galbraith said the broken pipe was an eight-inch main.
The utility was sending an inspector out to determine whether the flooding reported at a woman's home was related to the main break, Galbraith said.
Galbraith also said that repairs should be completed by 8 a.m.
