Man arrested in sex assault with 12-year-old girl he met on MySpace

ANAHEIM - Police arrested a 33-year-old Anaheim man in connection with sexually assaulting a 12-year-old Santa Ana girl he met on MySpace.

Matthew Martinez Casteneda, arrested about midnight Friday, allegedly arranged to meet the girl Wednesday at the South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa after swapping notes with her on the MySpace social networking Web site, according to Anaheim police Sgt. Rick Martinez.

Casteneda and the girl took a bus to Anaheim, where they visited two parks, he said.

Afterward, Casteneda got a room at Zaby's Motor Lodge, and the two had sexual relations, he said, adding that Casteneda left the girl in the room.

The girl later flagged down a civilian Anaheim police traffic controller, saying she wanted a ride home.

``Through the assistance of the staff at Zaby's Motor Lodge, we discovered that Casteneda has frequented that motel on numerous occasions,'' Martinez said. ``We believe this subject has victimized other minors.''

Police later learned the girl was reported missing in Santa Ana, and she told a Santa Ana police officer she had sex with the suspect, Martinez said.

Casteneda, arrested at a warehouse in the 2000 block of Placentia Avenue in Costa Mesa, was booked on suspicion of lewd and lascivious behavior with a child under the age of 14, he said.

Casteneda, who is missing a front tooth and has a pierced left ear, is a Latino, about 5 feet 11 inches, thin, with short, shaved black hair, according to police. He has ``13'' tattooed on his stomach, ``CF" behind his left ear, ``Calle Flores" on his right arm and back, ``Romona" on his right shoulder and ``MC" on his left shoulder.

Casteneda has pleaded guilty to domestic violence in the past -- to six counts of battery against a cohabitant in 1999 for which he was sentenced to 249 days in jail with three years probation, and another six counts of corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant in 2006 for which he was sentenced to 110 days in jail, eight hours of community service, domestic violence counseling and three years probation, the Orange County Register reported based on court records.

Anyone with more information about Cateneda or other victims was urged to call Anaheim police at (714) 497-6608.
