Pasadena police adds crime mapping to 'e-policing' initiative

PASADENA — The Pasadena Police Department has launched a neighborhood crime mapping page on its Web site as part of what interim Police Chief Christopher O. Vicino called e-policing.

Vicino's three-pronged e-policing effort also includes a weekly e-mail message to community leaders with large constituencies who are frequently asked questions about the department.

The third element is Nixle, where anyone can subscribe to get information that the department sends out such as news releases, community alerts, advisories and event announcements.

The department is also exploring using social networking Web sites such as Facebook in its crime-fighting efforts.

The information can be accessed by going to the department's home page,
http://cityofpasadena.net/Police/, and clicking the e-policing tool bar.
