Three homes were flooded when a 14-inch water main broke in Gardena early Saturday morning.
The broken main and residential flooding were reported at 3:06 a.m. at 134th Street and Budlong Avenue, said Los Angeles County Fire Dispatch Supervisor Ed Pickett.
"Water was coming from a main was flooding some residences,'' Pickett said. "We had a total of three residences flooded.''
Three families from the three flooded homes were displaced, a freelance video crew reported from the scene.
The Golden State Water Co. shut off water to more about 40 customers in the area about 4 a.m., the water company's spokesman, John Dewey, said.
Those customers were expected to be without water until late Saturday afternoon, Dewey said. The break appeared to be due to the "aging infrastructure,'' he said.
Budlong Avenue was closed at 134th Street.
It was the second early morning water main break in Gardena in about 24 hours.
The first break was reported around 3 a.m. Friday at Marine Avenue near Normandie Avenue, said Los Angeles County Fire Supervisor Andre Gougis.
Dewey said later Friday that Marine Avenue was closed between La Salle Avenue and Harvard Boulevard.
Crews worked to fix a 6-inch cast iron main and restore water service to about 30 customers.
