A man and a woman were killed today when a fire broke out in a Long Beach home described as having packrat conditions, according to authorities.
The fire at the corner of East 5th Street and North Grand Avenue was reported about 2:30 a.m., Long Beach firefighter Joshua Johnson told an On Scene Video camera crew.
Firefighters took about an hour to douse the blaze, On Scene reported.
Johnson said the residence had packrat conditions.
The two victims, an elderly man and woman, were pulled from the home and were declared dead at the scene, Johnson said. Their names were withheld pending notification of relatives.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
