SANTA ANA — Authorities say a man shook free of sheriff's deputies and jumped to his death from the 11th floor of an Orange County courthouse.
Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna says the man set off an alarm Friday when he walked out an emergency exit on to the balcony of the Orange County Superior Court building.
Deputies responding to the alarm tried to talk the man down and briefly grabbed him, but he fought them off and jumped over the railing to his death.
The two deputies who tried to save the man had minor injuries from the struggle and were treated at a hospital and released.
The man's identity has not been released and authorities did not immediately know why he was at the courthouse.
