Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Poizner is set to speak tonight at the opening of his Los Angeles County headquarters in Alhambra.
Poizner, the state's insurance commissioner, will "stress how vital grassroots volunteers will be in relaying his message for across-the-board tax cuts and finally addressing the state's illegal immigration problem," campaign communications director Jarrod Agen told a local wire service.
Poizner's opponent, former eBay Chief Executive Officer Meg Whitman, spoke in Redondo Beach Tuesday to the Beach Cities Republican Club, reiterating her campaign themes of job creation, reducing government spending and improving education, the Daily Breeze reported.
Whitman also criticized Attorney General Jerry Brown, the presumptive Democratic gubernatorial nominee, for declining to join other attorneys general in suing to attempt to block the federal overhaul of the health care system, according to the Daily Breeze.
Brown said last week he "instructed deputies in my office to carefully review" claims that the law conflicts with constitutional guarantees of states' rights.
