The Los Angeles City Council tonight unanimously rejected a seven-tenths of a cent per kilowatt hour increase in Department of Water and Power electricity rates shortly after it was approved by the Board of
Water and Power Commissioners.
The Board of Water and Power Commissioners tonight approved an increase of seven-tenths of a cent per kilowatt hour in Department of Water and Power electrical rates effective Thursday in a bid to preserve the department's bond rating.
The increase is one-tenth of a cent more than what the City Council approved Tuesday, but one-tenth of a cent less than what the department and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa recommended.
The DWP said the increase would result in about a 5.7 percent increase to customers' bills.
