David Freeman steps down from DWP; GM position vacant

City officials appointed Freeman to a six-month term as interim general manager at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

Neither the Department of Water and Power nor L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's office has yet said who will step into Freeman's shoes. David Freeman has worked as interim general manager since David Nahai resigned from the DWP's top job last October.

Freeman, who’s 84 years old, first held the job more than a decade ago. L.A.'s deputy mayor Austin Beutner has been in talks to run the DWP in the short run while the department seeks a permanent general manager.

The website OurLA.org has a copy of Freeman's farewell letter to DWP staffers here.
