The Capistrano Unified school board has hired a new superintendent, in hopes of stopping a revolving door of top leadership in the last several years.
The Capistrano Unified Board of Education has hired Anaheim Union High School superintendent Joseph Farley for its top administrative post. In a statement, the school board said they hired Farley because of his ability to resolve instructional, fiscal and public relations problems during his five years at the Anaheim district.
He’ll need to hit the ground running. Emotions are still raw after most teachers in the district went on strike for three days to protest a permanent 10 percent salary cut imposed by the board of education. The teachers union is supporting a parent-led recall drive against two Capistrano Unified board members who voted for the pay cut.
Seven people have occupied the Capistrano superintendent’s post in the last four years. The school board fired a popular superintendent last year and the previous superintendent is preparing his defense against criminal charges of misappropriating public funds.
