Illegal fireworks being made in Los Feliz home, haz mat team and bomb squad respond

A hazardous-materials team and a bomb squad were sent today to a residence in the Los Feliz area, where fireworks were being made illegally, a fire official said.

Crews were sent to the 3400 block of Lambeth Street about 5:20 a.m., said Cecil Manresa of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Two people apparently exposed to nitrates were taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries, Manresa said.

A few nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
