A boy or young man was shot in the chest in a drive-by shooting in Boyle Heights today.
The shooting near Soto Street and Whittier Boulevard occurred before 1 a.m., the watch commander at the LAPD's Hollenbeck Station said.
Paramedics took the victim to County-USC Medical Center, where he was in surgery and still alive more than two hours after the shooting, the watch commander said. The victim's name was not released.
Two suspects were in custody as of 3:20 a.m., she said.
The shooting was gang-related, the watch commander said.
