Prosecutors: Hawthorne mayor stole school's mixer

Prosecutors say the longtime mayor of a Southern California city stole a commercial-sized mixer from a school district so he could make dough to cook in a home pizza oven.

The Los Angeles County district attorney's office says Hawthorne Mayor Larry Guidi was charged with felony second-degree burglary and grand theft Tuesday. Prosecutors say Guidi was captured on a video security camera stealing the giant mixer and a cart.

The 52-year-old Guidi has been mayor of Hawthorne for 17 years, but also works as a warehouse operations manager for the small Southern California city's school district, which has placed him on leave.

A message left for Guidi at his City Hall office was not returned.
