A Los Angeles County review says more than two dozen sworn officers in the Probation Department probably won't be punished for misconduct because investigators missed deadlines to complete their case.
The report by the county Office of Independent Review was released last week.
It found that in at least 31 cases, internal affairs investigators violated the statute of limitations by taking more than a year to complete investigations or act on their findings.
Michael Gennaco, the lawyer who led the review, says some of the cases involved allegations of sex with a minor, cruelty to a child, and assault with a deadly weapon.
Probation Chief Donald H. Blevins says his staff is looking into recommendations for improvements.
