The transition road from the northbound Long Beach Freeway (710) to the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway is expected to be closed for much of the morning commute today due to an accident involving a big rig.
The transition road was expected to be closed until about 7:30 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball.
A trucker hauling marble or granite swerved to avoid a car about 1:30 a.m., and the big rig's trailer nearly tipped over, he said. CHP officers closed the road to accommodate crews working with a forklift to move the material to another vehicle.
A forklift was obtained by a tow truck company as of 5:20 a.m., according to the CHP.
