Surfing America USA Championships at Trestles through Monday

The Surfing America USA Championships continue today at Lower Trestles - the first time it's been held here.

The competition begin in earnest Wednesday. Preliminaries were held on the south side of the pier last weekend, and the remaining heats and finals continuing through Monday.

The tournament will take a break on Saturday, because the state parks system does not allow a contest to be held on consecutive weekend days.

Following Monday's finals, the 2011 PacSun USA Surf Team, which will compete for the United States in the 2011 Quiksilver ISA World Junior Surfing Championships, will be decided.

Waves are forecast to be in the 3-4 foot range today.
