Failed water-well pump in Gorman may have contaminated water supply

GORMAN — Los Angeles health officials are advising some Gorman residents today to boil water being used for drinking or food preparation, due to possible contamination from a failed water-well pump.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the boil-water order is expected to remain in effect until at least noon Friday.

The order was issued as a precautionary measure in response to the failure of the pump, which is operated by the Golden Valley Municipal Water District. The pump has been repaired and the impacted well is being disinfected, according to the county.

Residents living or working in the area are urged to boil all water being used for drinking or food preparation for at least one minute, then allow it to cool.

County health officials warned that failing to disinfect water could lead to stomach or intestinal illnesses.
