LONG BEACH — A Long Beach police cruiser was struck by a Metro Blue Line train, but the officer inside was not believed to be seriously injured.
A southbound train struck the car broadside near 16th Street and Long Beach Boulevard about 1 p.m. and pushed it some distance before coming to a stop. The vehicle was struck on the passenger side.
Long Beach police Officer Israel Ramirez said the officer's injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. Eleven train passenger were reportedly injured, authorities said.
Metro service in the area was temporarily disrupted. One of the Blue Line tracks remains in operation while the second track remains temporarily closed as investigators determine the cause of the collision.
