After two dormant years, the annual Orcutt Ranch Fruit Pick is back. It’s an opportunity to pick your own fresh fruit at a low price.

Barbara Pleasant with the Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation says the Valencia orange and grapefruit orchards are open this Saturday and Sunday between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m.

"Just come on out and have a great time. It’s a great opportunity to see the facility if you haven’t seen it before. Maybe bring a lunch. After you pick your fruit, just enjoy the facilities. It’s a jewel, a jewel in the valley. A hidden gem in the West Valley."

The grounds include an adobe residence, horticulture center, orchards, and an old majestic oak tree that Pleasant says is between 700 and 1,000 years old.

The do-it-yourself fruit pick costs $2 for an average grocery bag of oranges and grapefruit; $5 for a medium size box. Organizers ask pickers to carry along their own bags or boxes.
