Rev. Schuller's daughter assumes lead pastor role

The daughter of the Rev. Robert H. Schuller has taken the permanent role of lead pastor at the Crystal Cathedral, the Southern California megachurch he founded.

Sheila Schuller Coleman was officially affirmed in the role at a tearful Sunday service at the church where she has already been serving largely as leader.

The 83-year-old Schuller will take on a new role as head of the church's board of directors.

Coleman told the Los Angeles Times that the move is not a retirement for her father, that he will still make appearances at the church and continue to preach "until the day he dies."

The pair have shared the lead pastor role for the past year.

The church has had debt problems and its future leadership had been unclear after Schuller's son and intended successor left two years ago.
