Two people are dead after a Malibu wrong-way crash that has shut down Pacific Coast Highway for hours in the Point Dume area, forcing morning commuters onto lengthy canyon routes.
A Saturn and Ford Mustang collided at about 12:40 a.m. Friday on PCH near Zumirez Drive.
Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Andy Rosso says the Saturn, which was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes, burst into flames on impact and the driver died.
The Mustang driver also died, and a passenger in his car was airlifted in critical condition to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.
Shredded wreckage litters the highway 30 miles west of Los Angeles. The highway is expected to be shut down until 8 a.m.
Motorists are being rerouted over Malibu Canyon Road and Kanan Road.
