LA metal recycling yard fire knocked down

Los Angeles firefighters have knocked down a blaze in a metal recycling yard next to a mattress factory that shot a large plume of smoke over downtown.

City fire spokesman Cecil Manresa says the Saturday blaze south of downtown near Vernon was put out by about 100 firefighters 80 minutes after it was first reported.

The fire brought a stop to Metro Blue Line and freight train traffic on nearby tracks.

Manresa says no one was injured.
