L.A.’s former top cop said he enjoys his new life with a private security firm.
Bill Bratton is an executive with Altegrity, a private company that sells “best police practices” to the rest of the world. The former LAPD chief sells information gathering techniques to police departments in Latin America. He says it’s a good fit.
"For me," he says, "it’s a great job. I get to be me! Plus, I got to get back to New York. I’m an East Coast kid. And as much as I loved my time in Los Angeles, working with the LAPD, and the success we had, home for me is the East Coast and New York."
Bratton says some elements of his new job resemble his old one. "Management is management, leadership is leadership. The world I’m in now is much less crisis driven. At the end of the day, I’m not getting calls at three o’clock in the morning to go out to a homicide scene, getting briefed on the latest terrorism threat."
Bratton says he appreciates the reduced stress load in his new life. And, he doesn’t have to wear a uniform any more.
