2-year-old child hospitalized after Palmdale near drowning

A two-year-old child was airlifted to a hospital after nearly drowning in a swimming pool in the 38600 block of Palms Place in Palmdale. The child was unresponsive at the time of the airlift but was later placed on a breathing respirator and listed in stable condition at a local hospital.

The toddler had strayed away from their mother and into the back yard of the residence before falling into the pool, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy Robbie Royster said. The sex of the child was not disclosed.

The family of the child pulled the victim out of the pool minutes after falling in, but by that time the child had no pulse and was not breathing.

Family members began CPR before three Sheriff's deputies arrived and took over performing CPR until paramedics could arrived and transport the child.

Deputies then closed off key intersections to escort an ambulance to an awaiting helicopter to transport the victim.

The child was flown to Antelope Valley Hospital and later transferred to Loma Linda PICU.
