Surf City USA has decided to annex the 85-acre unincorporated community of neighboring Sunset Beach.
The Huntington Beach City Council voted 5-2 on Monday to get the annexation process started by authorizing the filing of necessary paperwork with the Orange County Local Agency Formation Commission.
A consultant study shows annexation is financial feasible and will bring in at least $624,000 in property, sales and occupancy taxes.
A residents group, the Sunset Beach Community Association, is resisting the annexation proposal.
