Classes get underway early in some Inland Empire school districts
It's only the beginning of August and the school bells are already ringing in some Inland Empire school districts.
The Chaffey Joint Union High School District began classes on Tuesday. That district includes Ontario, Montclair, Rancho Cucamonga, and parts of other communities.
It's the second year in a row the district has started so early. District Superintendent Mat Holton says there are advantages to the earlier start, even for students.
"By moving the schedule up to the second week in August, our students are able to finish school prior to winter break," said Holton. "And obviously when they come back, they're able to start new material and move towards the second semester."
Holton says the earlier schedule also gives schools more time to prepare students for the High School Exit Exam and Advanced Placement tests. The other districts that started classes this week include Ontario-Montclair Unified, Cucamonga School District and Fontana Unified.
