Firefighters contain 25-acre brush fire in Victorville
VICTORVILLE — Firefighters have contained a small brush fire that was burning in a riverbed in the town of Victorville in Southern California's high desert.
Apple Valley Fire spokeswoman Jennifer Eisenbry said the blaze had burned about 25 acres of heavy brush by late Friday afternoon. It was first reported at 2:41 p.m.
The fire was contained to a dry riverbed and had not threatened any structure.
A water-dropping helicopter from the Bureau of Land Management assisted 22 engines and up to 90 firefighters on the ground.
The Mojave river is near a school and Highway 18. Victorville is about 100 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles in San Bernardino County.
