San Bernardino County is recruiting Android and iPhone users to help clean up blight.
Users of iPhones and other smartphones with Android operating systems can download a special app that turns them into virtual code enforcement cops. The county is asking people who spot graffiti and illegally dumped garbage to snap pictures of the offending blight and e-mail it to county code enforcement.
The application uses GPS technology to pinpoint the location of the picture and deliver the complaint to San Bernardino County Code Enforcement. The iPhone version of the county code enforcement app released last month has already generated nearly 150 complaints San Bernardino County is considering whether to develop a BlackBerry version.
