Riverside County dog license fees double

From now on, it’ll cost twice as much as before to license a dog in Riverside County. The Riverside County Board of Supervisors just made it more costly to get a dog licensed. The board voted to almost double the fee for some owners.

The cost of licensing a sterilized Fido in Riverside County is doubling to $16 for one year. A three-year license will set owners back 35 bucks.

But it’ll cost a lot more if your pooch can still make puppies. The licensing fee for an unaltered canine is rising to $175 – tack on an additional $50 for a three-year license.

Registered breeders get a break. They’ll only have to pay $65 a year per animal.

The county may consider waiving the higher fees for owners who can prove financial hardship.

State and county laws say that dog owners must register their puppies by the time they’re 4 months old. More than 10 percent of Riverside County’s animal services revenue comes from licensing fees.
