Cancer benefit to air on all 4 major networks, cable Friday

"Stand Up To Cancer," a fundraising special benefitting innovative cancer research will air from 8-9 p.m. Friday on ABC, CBS, Fox Broadcasting, NBC and several cable channels.

"Stand Up To Cancer," will be hosted by the anchors of the three network nightly newscasts – Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer and Brian Williams – and will feature numerous celebrity cancer survivors, including Lance Armstrong, Fran Drescher, Elizabeth Edwards, Sharon Osbourne and Sofia Vergara.

Scheduled musical performers include Stevie Wonder, Neil Diamond, Herbie Hancock, Natasha Bedingfield, Martina McBride, Aaron Neville and Kris Kristofferson.

George Clooney, Jane Lynch, Will Smith, Denzel Washington and Renee Zellweger also are scheduled to appear.

A similar telecast in 2008 helped raise more than $100 million, organizers said.

Stand Up To Cancer is also a charitable organization dedicated to raising funds for groundbreaking translational research to accelerate the delivery of new therapies to patients. The group brings together scientists from different disciplines across various institutions to work collaboratively.
