Ben Affleck was the talk of “The Town” at this weekend’s box office.
In its debut weekend, the Warner Bros. vehicle for “comeback kid” Ben Affleck topped ticket sales – "The Town," grossing an estimated $23.8 million in tickets. Affleck, who also directed the film, stars as a bank robber who has a yen for a bank manager despite the fact’s he’s stealing from the bank using a scary nun’s costume and ghoul’s mask as a disguise.
Two other movie premiers did well. Sony’s/Screen Gems' "Easy A" was a sure bet for second place with $18.2 million in estimated sales. Universal’s "Devil," while not a debut, claimed third place, earning $12.6 million.
In fourth, Sony/Screen Gems scored again with its horror flick “Resident Evil: Afterlife," earning $10.1 million. Lionsgate premiered a new animated 3-D film that was big with the younger crowd – "Alpha and Omega," the story of two wolves on a road trip, grossed $9.2 million this weekend.
