Lots of people want to see the face behind Facebook. The new movie about the creation of the new media site topped the box office.

The top draw was the movie drama about the birth of the online site that now has about half billion users. The Social Network opened with $23 million. Lots of critics clicked the "like button" for the film directed by David Fincher. It stars Jesse Eisenberg as Facebook creator and Harvard dropout Mark Zuckerberg.

Overall box officer numbers are sagging behind last year. Down about 9 percent. The 3D animated Legend of the Guardians and the sequel Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps each brought in about $10 millions. Studio executives are hoping word of mouth will give some of the movies, particularly the adult dramas, a longer life at the box office.
