SACRAMENTO — The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is endorsing Meg Whitman for California governor, saying the financially troubled state needs the former eBay CEO's experience to create jobs.
The group has been active in California politics this year. It has spent more than $2 million in ads backing U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina, a Republican who is running against Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer.
Fiorina has campaigned against President Barack Obama's economic stimulus package, which the chamber originally championed.
Whitman, an economic adviser to GOP presidential candidate John McCain in 2008, supported the Bush administration's $700 billion Wall Street bailout.
The chamber previously had urged members of Congress to support the bailout and the stimulus. It has since turned against some of those who did.
