If you head to the post office today to mail off those Christmas cards, be prepared for a lot of company.
This is typically the busiest mailing day of the year as people send off their holiday greetings and packages. About 50 million cards, letters and packages were mailed from post offices in the Los Angeles region last year. Postal officials expect about the same amount this year.
Nationwide, the postal service expects people to send about 800 million pieces of mail today. That’s about 40 percent more than a typical day for the U.S. Postal Service.
Postal officials say generally if you can get your holiday cards addressed, stamped and in the mail by Tuesday, they’ll be delivered by Christmas.
