The newest star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame doesn’t wield a microphone or a lighsaber, but a baton. He comes from the world of classical music.

He’s former L.A. Philharmonic music director Zubin Mehta. His is the 2,434th star on the Walk of Fame. The honor coincides with his 50th anniversary as a conductor – and his 75th birthday this year.

Mehta, a native of Mumbai, India, has conducted symphonies and opera orchestras from Montreal to Florence to Vienna. Through his family foundation and his institutional ties, he promotes the development of young classical musicians.

Mehta’s visiting Los Angeles to bask in the glow of his star, and to conduct a Disney Hall performance by the Israel Philharmonic, which has designated him music director for life.
Zubin Mehta’s star is located near the famous intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street.
