Actor Bradley Cooper arrives at the special screening of 'Limitless' presented by Relativity Media held at ArcLight Cinemas on March 3, 2011 in Hollywood, California.
What if you could take a pill to make yourself rich and powerful? It works well as a movie plot.
What would you do if you had unlimited brain powers? The question apparently intrigued movie goers. "Limitless," the sci-fi thriller based on that premise, tops the box office.
Bradley Cooper stars as a struggling writer who pops a magic pill and is suddenly making millions and wowing everyone he meets. Robert De Niro stars as well.
Still, ticket sales were rather limited – capped at about $19 million.
There was a crowded field of new releases and movie choices. The animated western "Rango" took the number two spot – and last week’s number one movie, "Battle: Los Angeles" slipped to three.
Matthew McConaughey stars in “The Lincoln Lawyer" as a sleazy defense attorney on a high-profile case. It opened fourth with an estimated $13.4 million.
In fifth place is “Paul," with Seth Rogen providing the voice of a pot-smoking, wise-cracking alien who befriends a couple of British sci-fi geeks.
