A Los Angeles County grand jury today indicted former Bell City Manager Robert Rizzo and his former assistant manager on new criminal charges in a major corruption case.

Robert Rizzo and Angela Spaccia face new charges that include misappropriation of public funds, conflict of interest and falsifying public documents.

Prosecutors have already charged the two former city leaders with dozens of fraud counts in connection with an alleged multi-million-dollar scam to boost their salaries at taxpayers’ expense.

Rizzo and Spaccia pleaded not guilty to the new charges. Their next scheduled court date is May 3.

Six other defendants, including former Bell City Council members, will also be in back in L.A. Superior Court around that time for a pre-trial hearing on criminal charges.
