Critter-friendly West Hollywood is moving forward with a plan to ban the sale of fur.

Here’s how much West Hollywood loves animals – it formally recognizes pets as “companions” to the people who care for them, and calls those humans “guardians,” not “owners.”

Now its city council has agreed to move forward with ordinance that bans the sale of clothing made of fur, animal hair and wool.

The ordinance still needs a second reading before final approval. That could happen at the council’s next meeting. One councilmember estimates that it’ll take effect on June 30th.

The no-fur ban would be the first ordinance of its kind in the country. The law would not apply to items made of leather.
