Update: 3 Simi Valley schools locked down as police search for robbery suspects

Crest View Elementary School, Hillside Middle School and Mountain View Elementary in Simi Valley were placed on lockdown earlier today. Police are searching for several robbery suspects in an area near the schools. The schools were dismissed at their regular times.

Police say the men robbed a jewelry store this morning and fled on foot in a neighborhood near the schools. The schools are located just outside the area where police are searching, but officers locked down the schools as a precaution.

Sgt. Ritchie Lew of the Simi Valley Police Department said that students were safe during the lockdown. School officials notified parents of the situation and told them that students would be dismissed at the regular time, but only to a parent in a vehicle.

Police have arrested one suspect and have detained another who they believe was involved in the robbery. They are still looking for a third man.

Students had a normal day otherwise. They ate lunch in classrooms, escorted by police and school officials if they needed to use the restroom. Wednesday will be a normal day.

Locust Elementary and Alder Middle School in Fontana were also placed on lockdown today while police investigated a possible pipe bomb at a nearby residence, ABC 7 and KCBS report.
