Bell takes a closer look at budget issues with special open meeting

The new leaders of the city of Bell are going forward with plans to hammer out a budget and keep the public involved. The City Council will hold a special, open meeting on Saturday, part of a series of meetings they've held in recent days.
The workshop at Bell Community Center will allow City Council members to focus on priorities like public safety, recreational programs and municipal services.
"We gotta look at what the numbers are, what we can do to balance our budget," said Mayor Ali Saleh. "The high property taxes is something that we’ve endured from the previous administration that’ll be on us for many, many years."
Members of that previous administration are accused of looting the city treasury to the tune of five-and-a-half million dollars.
The new leaders say Bell homeowners will play a role in the special meetings over the next several months. Some have already weighed in, urging Bell not to balance the budget by cutting essential services like senior transportation programs.
