US Immigration and Customs Enforcement names advocate

ICE

Andrew Lorenzen-Strait is ICE's new liaison with immigration advocacy groups and people detained by the agency.

If you're a U.S. citizen picked up by immigration officials, who do you call? There's a new public advocate who's supposed to help.

This is the first time U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has designated an agency point person.

Andrew Lorenzen-Strait is the new liaison between ICE and folks on the front lines — immigration advocacy groups and people detained by the agency. In particular, ICE says the advocate will address “concerns related to ICE enforcement actions involving U.S. citizens.”

Lorenzen-Strait is a former pro bono lawyer from Maryland.

ICE says information brought back by the advocate will help the agency prioritize the “types of individuals” who should be deported.
