A former member of the Police Commission, Alan Skobin, was unanimously confirmed to the Board of Fire Commissioners today by the Los Angeles City Council.
A long-time member of the Los Angeles Police Commission was unanimously confirmed to the Board of Fire Commissioners today in the wake of management problems at the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Attorney Alan Skobin served on the Police Commission from 2003 until earlier this year. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa appointed him to the Fire Commission after the LAFD announced it had misstated and recalculated response times and was experiencing problems with its dispatch system. The mayor’s office also clashed with the fire department and City Attorney’s Office over the release of basic information on emergency calls.
“Alan Skobin has been a dedicated public service for many, many years,” Councilman Mitch Englander said moments before the council voted in favor of Skobin. “His experience is invaluable.”
The Board of Fire Commissioners meets the first and third Tuesday of the month in City Hall East.
