Piglets doze off in a bed of hay on October 18, 2008. Eleven piglets, born at the Orange County Fair earlier this week, are now orphaned after the sudden death of their mother, the sow Daisy.

Eleven piglets that were born this week at the Orange County Fair are doing well despite the loss of their mother, a 4-year-old sow named Daisy.

Daisy suffered a seizure and died Wednesday, the day after giving birth to the piglets.

Evy Young supervises Centennial Farms, the three-acre farm site at the fair. She says the piglets are thriving.

“The vet came by and checked on them and they are doing very well. We’re currently providing them with cow’s milk and we are feeding them on the hour every hour.”

Staff members at the farm also have provided the piglets with a secure shelter and a heat lamp. Young says the mother did not show any signs of sickness before her death.
