Anaheim police have shot and killed a gunman who fired at officers after a stolen SUV chase.
It's the weekend's second deadly Anaheim officer shooting. An unarmed man was shot to death Saturday afternoon, leading to a violent clash between witnesses and police.
Late Sunday, anti-gang officers spotted a gang member in a stolen sport utility vehicle and a brief pursuit ended when three people jumped from the SUV and ran.
Sgt. Bob Dunn says early Monday that officers were chasing the suspects on foot when one of them fired one or two rounds at an officer.
The officer retuned fire, killing the gunman.
A second male suspect was detained for questioning but a third person in the SUV, a woman, has eluded capture.
In a separate incident, investigators are looking into another weekend shooting involving Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies. The Sheriff's Department says it happened shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday in a county area near South Los Angeles.
Deputies opened fire in an incident involving three men but apparently didn't hit anyone. Two men were taken into custody but a third escaped. No deputies were injured.
Authorities haven't released details of what prompted that shooting.
