A trial date is expected to be set on Friday morning for two ex-Fullerton police officers. The men are charged in connection with the beating death of a homeless man last year.

Manuel Ramos and Jay Cicinelli are charged in connection with the death of Kelly Thomas, a mentally ill homeless man who died last year five days after a violent encounter with police.

Ramos faces charges of second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter; Cicinelli is charged with involuntary manslaughter and excessive force.

Both were recently terminated by the Fullerton Police Department.

Defense attorneys entered not guilty pleas for the two men at their arraignment earlier this month.

Motions to dismiss the charges against both men could be considered at the hearing, along with the setting of a trial date.

Four other officers were involved in the incident, including Joe Wolfe, who has been terminated by the city of Fullerton.

The other officers involved have not been charged, but the Orange County District Attorney says the investigation is on-going.
