LA County sheriff's deputy shot in South El Monte

A deputy was shot and wounded Sunday, Sept. 2 in South El Monte. The deputy's condition was not immediately known.

A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy was shot and wounded Sunday morning in South El Monte, a Sheriff's Capt. Mike Parker said.

His injuries are not believed to be life threatening, Sheriff's Sgt. Pauline Panis tells a local wire service. He was transported to a local hospital, according to the Los Angeles Times.

No arrests have been made, the Times reports. Deputies say they're searching for a man and woman in connection with the shooting, the Times' Ruben Vives reports. The suspects are armed and dangerous and are also responsible for several car thefts in the area, authorities say.

The shooting occurred at 8:56 a.m. in the area of Durfee Avenue and Peck Road, Parker said.

The Peck Road offramp to the westbound 60 Freeway was shut down.
