Labor Day honors the people who made paid holidays happen
Shut for certain:
* Banks
* Libraries
* Schools
* Federal, state and local government offices
* Courts
* Sanitation in the city of Los Angeles (delayed to Tuesday for scheduled Monday pickups)
* Some public transit including Riverside Transit Agency, San Bernardino’s Omnitrans and Antelope Valley Transit
Limited service:
* Public transit agencies Orange County Transit Authority, Los Angeles County Metro and many Foothill Transit routes
Open for sure:
* Supermarkets
* Shopping malls
* Scheduled Monday sanitation pickup in the cities of Burbank and Glendale
* Restaurants
* Emergency services
The reason so much activity slows down is to honor organized labor – the people whose long, persistent efforts helped deliver paid holidays and other benefits to workers. That warrants some extra courtesy for the people who do show up to work today so others won’t have to.
