Off-duty Beverly Hills police officer Jeffrey Sweet has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence following a Simi Valley crash.
Simi Valley Police say Sweet, who is 42, was taken into custody Tuesday night.
Tuesday night's crash was reported around 10:30 p.m. on Royal Avenue after Sweet failed to negotiate a curve.
“Our officers arrived on scene and found that a pickup truck had left the roadway, collided with a house, a power pole, a gas line, a retaining wall and eventually rolled over and came to rest on a retaining wall," Sgt. John Adamczyk explained.
Bystanders pulled 42-year-old Sweet from the car. Sweet wasn't visibly injured.
The crash ruptured a natural gas line, prompting emergency crews to evacuate two homes temporarily.
Sweet was taken to a hospital after complaining of pain before being booked for investigation of driving under the influence. Investigating officers spoke with Sweet and suspected he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, said Simi Valley police Sgt. Greg Dungan, according to City News Service.
Sweet was booked into Ventura County Jail, according to Dungan. The Beverly Hills Police Department says it’s investigating the incident.
