Kohl’s Department Stores said Tuesday it will hire more than 52,700 customer service workers nationwide to assist shoppers during the busy holiday shopping season.
The Wisconsin-based retailer said it is hiring 10 percent more seasonal employees than last year in its retail stores, distribution centers and credit operations.
John Worthington, Kohl’s chief administrative officer, said in a statement that Kohl’s is known for giving great customer service. “That commitment to deliver on our customer promise to expect great things is especially important during the holiday season,” Worthington said.
On average, 41 new seasonal employees will work at each store in jobs from manning cash registers to unloading trucks, Kohl’s said. Kohl’s did not immediately return a call for comment on how many new jobs will be added to Southern California stores.
The buildup in staff is part of the retailer's preparation for the important holiday shopping season, the biggest sales period for retailers.
Kohl’s sales were lackluster in its second quarter. Sales were flat at $4.2 billion and net income was $240 million, a 20 percent decline from a year earlier.
